What is the difference between Battery Storage Capacity and Daily Useable Storage

19th December 2024

We recently launched a marketing campaign and it led to many questions from customers about the difference between Battery Storage Capacity and Daily Useable Storage. We decided to go into the differences here and explain what daily useable storage is and why it is different to battery storage capacity.

Let’s start with Battery Storage Capacity.

A common phrase that you’ve no doubt come across hundreds of times whilst looking at battery storage.

Battery storage capacity is the maximum amount of energy a unit can store and deliver before recharging. In summary, one cycle of full charge and discharge. This indicates the total amount of stored energy that a battery can store at any one time.

So, when talking about Battery Storage Capacity you list storage capacity in kWh’s. For example a 10kWh battery can store up to 10kWh of energy.

But not all batteries are the same.

Battery storage manufacturers come in all shapes and sizes. This also applies to the technology, hardware & software used to produce storage batteries.

What is ‘Daily Useable Storage’?

This term often used in our advertising talks about what our battery storage unit are capable of. Because of our unique software and ability to ‘daily double cycle’ our batteries, you are able to get double the amount of daily storage. A simple enough explanation however, most batteries do not allow you to ‘daily double cycle’ your battery storage. Moreover, it will shorten your warranty considerably if you do so.

At Soltaro, we want to give customers the ultimate flexibility in how they use they battery storage. Understanding that by utilising cheaper overnight tariffs to charge the battery overnight, you can get the benefit from stored energy earlier in the day. Then, when the sun is shining and you are self generating, the battery is recharged using the available sunshine and you are ready to reap the benefits from a second full battery’s stored energy.

The benefits are considerable. So, when you purchase a 10kWh AIO2 battery from Soltaro, you get daily useable storage of up to 20.54kWh per day. A huge amount of stored power that makes a staggering difference to you return over its lifetime.

The advantage of double cycling is considerable.

Cost

You are paying for a smaller system as you will get double the storage.

Savings

Look at the table below based on a 10kWh system. The savings are listed from self consumption only, vs utilising overnight tariffs for a second daily cycle.
